Lorna McGhee

Principal Flutist of the Pittsburgh Symphony

Lorna McGhee was born in 1972. She attended the Royal Academy of Music where she studied with William Bennett and Michie Bennett. After her graduation, she won Co-Principal flute of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. McGhee eventually emigrated to America and held a teaching  position at the University of Michigan. After a year at Michigan she became an adjunct flute professor at the University of British Columbia. In 2012 McGhee became the Principal Flute of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and in 2015 became a professor of flute at Carnegie Mellon University. McGhee also teaches at the Pender Island Flute Retreat and the William Bennett International Summer School as well as giving masterclasses around the world.

McGhee is a prolific soiloist and has performed with many Orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in the UK and Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, Toronto Philharmonia, and Victoria Symphony in Canada and the Nashville Chamber Orchestra, Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra, San Luis Obispo Symphony and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in the USA.
