Karen Kamensek
Former Music Director of the Staatsoper Hannover
Karen Kamensek was born on January 2, 1970. She studied piano performance and orchestral conducting at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. During her career Kamensek has been the leader of many ensembles including Volksoper Wien, Theater Freiburg, Slovenian National Theatre, Staatsoper Hamburg, and Staatsoper Hannover. She’s also been featured as a guest conductor with the Royal Danish Theatre, San Francisco Opera, and Dortmund Philharmonic. Kamensek has a close relationship with Philip Glass and the highlight of this relationship has been in 2017 when she gave the first full live performance of Philip Glass's and Ravi Shankar's Passages at the Proms.
