Principal Oboist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra

Cynthia DeAlmeida is the Principal Oboe of the Pittsburgh Symphony and holds the Dr. William Larimer Mellon, Jr. Chair. DeAlmeida received her Bachelor of Music from the University of Michigan where she studied under Arno Mariotti. She then attended Temple University where she studied with Richard Woodhams. DeAlmeida is a frequent soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony and premiered Oboe concertos by Balada, Richman, and Fletcher. She has also performed concertos by J.S.Bach, Francaix, Haydn, Mozart, Richard Strauss and Vaughan Williams. DeAlmeida has also soloed with other professional ensembles such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Haddonfield Symphony, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia, Knoxville Symphony, and U.S. Army Orchestra. DeAlmeida is also a professor at Carnegie Mellon University where she teaches Oboe.
